    Good

The Maniello family should count themselves very fortunate that they employ such excellent and friendly English-speaking staff- even the chamber-maids spoke better English than some of the doctors at the nearby hospital. What also stands this hotel in good stead is the wonderful gardens and well-operated swimming-pool complex with infinity pools commanding magical views towards Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples. Its location, just on the edge of the right side of town,is also excellent, and requires a ten minute stroll to be amidst the restaurants and shops of Sorrento. Unfortunately, for older and disabled customers there is no dedicated hotel shuttle service to town, the port or the railway/bus terminal which are a brisk 25 minute walk away.

It is difficult to pin-point exactly what is wrong with the Grand Hotel Capodimonte, but there is something amiss! As a fellow guest said to me "It's lost its Mojo!" Certainly in my opinion it is not a €220-plus a night hotel and certainly I would not recommend the hotel to friends or return there, which is a crying shame as, given the calibre of staff, the location and the pool complex, this could be a very good hotel indeed. My main complaint was with the kitchen. The lunch poolside menu was predictable, uninventive and too long. The food served for evening meal in the main restaurant was almost inedible, while the two beautiful poolside restaurants remained for some reason in a state of isolation, hardly used, and in a state of social segregation from the rest of the hotel (why the cover charge?). Noise after midnight was an almost incessant problem, mainly due to inconsiderate guests (why no policy of requesting guests to have consideration?). The room was clean but decor, in that typically Italian hotel baroque style, is dated. How disappointing!

    Very good

Spacious and clean rooms. The pool area was very large and as a result the guests were well spread over the area so there was no overcrowding. It was just a short stroll to the main area of Corso Italia. The staff at the front desk were helpful in helping plan any day trips. The breakfast was very substantial and the views from the brekky area were amazing.

We were charged for Mini Bar items we did not take. The pool closed at 6pm, I think this is too early in a resort town. We wanted to order a snack at the pool bar and were told the kitchen did not open until 5pm, it was 5:20pm when we asked. A sign in the area noted the Pool snack bar was open until 7pm. The restaurants had strict dress codes and charged a $20euro per person cover charge.

    Superb

This hotel is very well situated just 5 minute walk from Sorrento and main square. Its greatest asset is its friendly and welcoming staff. This is a 4 star hotel built on a hill side so is therefore on different levels. This means that there are breathtaking views from the pool area and restaurants. Even when full, because the 5 pools are tiered one never feels crowded. The level of cleanliness is excellent with clean towels and bedding most days. Our room was spacious with balcony overlooking pool and stunning views of the town and bay of Naples.

I felt the food was a disappointment. Other than breakfast which was very good, I felt that the hotel took unnecessary short cuts like using processed tomato sauce on its Bruchetta when Naples is well known for its fresh tomatoes!! Biggest surprise though was the awful coffee.....something I never thought I would experience in Italy!

If you wish to relax and enjoy the sites of Sorrento, this is an excellent hotel in all respects, located within a comfortable 10 mins walk from the centre of the city. Excellent swimming pool facilities. All staff are to be congratulated for making our stay a wonderful experience.

    Scenery was lovely

Our room was under the dining room so from about 6.30am every morning all we could hear was the dragging of chairs, which made sleeping in late impossible and meant the holiday wasnt as relaxing as we hoped. The sunbeds around the pool were always taken so it gave very little option of where to sit. People often left their towels on the beds but were not to be seen all day.

I loved the location and the surroundings. The view from the swimming pools area was incredible and refreshing for mind and soul. The staff members were all extremely friendly, helpful and professional. The location was ideal being close to Sorrento town centre but not right in the middle of it.

Only two things I would have changed about Grand Hotel Capodimonte. 1) The swimming pools, even if beautiful, were a bit too cold for a swim (in the end I swam anyway because they were really too inviting) 2) Paying 7.50 for one caprese salad + 21 euros just for sitting in a different spot of the swimming pool area and to have the salad shared between two people, I found slightly excessive.

    Superb

Lovely location set above Sorrento. Our room (premier room) was spacious and had a panoramic view of the town and the bay of Naples. 10-15 minute walk into the centre of Sorrento or down to the fishing village of Marina Grande and it's fish restaurants. Plenty of room on the terraces around the cascade of swimming pools, again with a view of the bay.

Could do with tea and coffee-making facilities in the room. Taxis from town can be expensive, despite the short distance (about 15 euros).

Great location & views - better food than the majority of sorrento

The pool area is excellent and the surroundings and location are breathtaking. Great location for walking into Sorrento. The hotel staff were all genuinely helpful and friendly. The food is also very good, especially compared with regular hotel standards. The decor is typically classical Italian style and you could perhaps argue a little dated, but it suited the elegance of the hotel and you could not fault its cleanliness and upkeep.

It is a popular tourist hotel, especially with American and British guests, so if you prefer something a little bit more off the bespoke or cultural then it may not be the right choice. It is also worth bearing in mind that most of the standard rooms face into the rock face so don't really get any sun on the balconies or have a view.

    Very good

The Location, overlooking Sorrento with wonderful views from many vantage points. The tiered pool is magnificent. There are many quiet areas to sit and relax. The rooms were excellently maintained, with daily change of towels and linen by the housemaid who sang as she worked! Some guests complained of road noise, but we had a room to the side, 407, and it was perfect. It even had a partial sea view. The staff were attentive and friendly.

I thought the breakfast for this standard of hotel was average. If you want something hot, I recommend the Omelette, which is freshly prepared, or stick to a continental breakfast. It would be better not to attempt an English/Irish style breakfast than to serve up very poor quality bacon and sausage which are either half cooked or burnt. The second morning the baked beans were cold, I never tried them again. The coffee was terrible, and the water for the tea was never hot enough. I resorted to using Nescafe sachets.
